President issues ordinances to save country being blacklisted

Kathmandu, June 18: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has issued two ordinances– Mutual Legal Assistance Ordinance- 2069 BS and Extradition Ordinance- 2069 BS in accordance with the Article 88.1 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal 2063 BS in view of Nepal’s commitment to international community and national interests.

The government had sent two Bills to the President Office to bring them through ordinances to avoid Nepal being blacklisted from Financial Action Task Force.

Though opposition parties have condemned the government’s move and urged the president not to pass any bills through the ordinance, Dr Yadav issued them on Monday.

President issued bills through ordinance taking into concern the national interest and commitment Nepal has expressed to the international community, clarified the president’s office.

In May, during a face-to-face meeting in New Delhi with the Asia Pacific Group –– the regional member of Financial Action Task Force– Nepal was asked to fulfill its commitment as soon as possible to escape blacklisting in June.
