UCPN-Maoist to hold general convention on January
A meeting of the UCPN (Maoist) General Convention Organizing Central Committee held at the party headquarters at Parisdanda took a decision to hold the general convention on that date and to complete all tasks like renewing the membership of the party’s members and holding the convention of the party’s village, area, district and state committees before that.
Party spokesman Dinanath Sharma said the meeting decided to alter the portfolios of the party leaders. Accordingly, Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been assigned the Chief of the Special Bureau and Class Organizations Department, Amik Sherchan the Chief of the Commission and the Joint Front, Giriraj Mani Pokharel as the Chief of the party’s Eastern Bureau, Lilamani Pokharel as Chief of the party’s Western Bureau, Shakti Basnet as the Chief of the party’s Far-western Bureau, Haribol Gjurel as Chief of Madhesh Bureau and Ram Karki as Chief of the party’s International Department.
Likewise, Agni Sapkota is the party spokesperson and Chief of the Publicity Bureau, Devendra Paudel is the Chief of the Newah State Committee, Chandra Prakash Khanal is the Chief of the Abadh State Committee, Lokendra Bistamagar is the Chief of the Magarat State Committee, Gopal Kirati is the Chief of the Kochila State Committee, Lekhraj Bhatta is the Chief of the Bheri-Karnali State Committee, Dilaram Acharya is the Chief of the Tamuwan State Committee and Bhim Prasad Gautam is the Chief of the Mithila State Committee.
Dinanath Sharma who was given the responsibility of party spokesperson before this has been made the Chief of the party’s Intellectual Department. Ninu Chapagain has been made the Chief of the Cultural Department and Janardan Sharma the Chief of the Class Organizations Department.
The UCPN (Maoist) decided to transfer the personnel assigned to the private secretariats of party chairman Prachanda and vice-chairmen Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
Speaking in the meeting, party chairman Prachanda expressed the belief that the general convention would be able to present the party w as the revolutionary party of the 21st century. He also directed the party leaders and cadres to go to their respective work areas for making preparations for the general convention.
